Until recently, I’ve always wondered why anyone would want to water down wine with anything other than more wine, but after I tried a really, I MEAN REALLY good glass of chilled red sangria, I opened my mind to this refreshing, flavorful beverage. YEP, it’s good! Especially in the heat of the summer when you just can’t seem to get enough cold fluids down your neck pipes– that sounded weird.
I don’t recommend it, but I could probably drink an entire pitcher by myself.
Easy Red Sangria Recipe
A classic quick and easy sangria recipe made with red wine, brandy, orange juice and fresh fruit! This red sangria is great for anytime of the year including holidays, pool days and parties. Double the recipe to feed a crowd! It's cheap, easy and always a crowd pleaser.
Ingredients
- 1 bottle Spanish red wine (or any dry red wine)
- 1/3 cup brandy
- 3/4 cup orange juice
- 3 tbsp sugar (brown or white)
- 1/2 orange (sliced into small pieces)
- 1/2 apple (sliced into small pieces)
Instructions
- Cut your fruit (with the skin on) into small pieces and toss into a large pitcher.
- Next, add sugar and muddle the sugar and fruit together with a large wooden spoon (or anything that's good for muddling). Probably not your fist, though.
- Add orange juice and brandy, and muddle again for about 30 seconds. Feel free to drink brandy while you're doing this.
- Add the red wine and stir well. Do a taste test to see if it's sweetened to your liking. Add more sugar, brandy or orange juice if you wish.
- Pour over ice and garnish with fruit slices. I like a little bit of tang in mine so I sometimes also add lemons or limes. Drink up!
Be happy and drink sangria.
