Ingredients Needed
-
12 pack regular bacon
-
1 large yellow onion
-
Your favorite bbq sauce
Preparing Your Onion Rings
- Make sure to cut the onion into rings NOT slices. To do that, first cut off the stems and remove the outer layer. Next, continue cutting in the same direction that you cut the stems off.
- Thick sliced onion rings are best, otherwise they can be a bit flimsy once the bacon is wrapped around.
- You can double up the onion used with each piece of bacon if your onions rings are thin or small.
Wrapping The Bacon
- Simply wrap the bacon around the onion rings trying not to overlap too much.
- Keep in mind that the onion rings will all be in varying sizes. Some of them will require one piece of bacon, while others may need 1½ or 2 slices to cover the entire onion.
- Although not necessary, feel free to spice the bacon up a bit with black pepper or garlic powder.
Temperatures & Times
- Want to make them in the oven? Cook at 400° F for 15-25 minutes. Ideally on a baking rack that fits onto your sheet pan so that the bacon grease drips off, creating a crispier result. If you don’t have a baking rack, you can simply make them on a foil lined baking sheet.
- Want to make them in the air fryer? No problem! Cook at 390° F for about 10 minutes, flipping them half way through. The only down side of the air fryer is that you’ll most likely have to make them in batches because you don’t want them stacked.
- Making them outside on the grill? Set your grill to medium heat and cook for about 25 minutes, flipping them over a few times. You may need wooden skewers to hold them together if they’re flimsy.
The Finishing Touch
- The bbq sauce is totally optional, but it adds the only thing that’s missing from these savory onions rings– something sweet. You can either brush the bbq sauce on once the rings are done cooking, or serve with bbq sauce on the side for dipping.
- For even more deliciousness, serve these bacon wrapped onion rings with ranch or blue cheese dressing.
- In addition to a yummy snack or appetizer, these bacon onion rings can also be served in cheeseburgers or sandwiches as an impressive condiment.
This amazing bacon recipe is as good as it looks! My husband doesn’t even like onions but he ate half the batch. The onions caramelize and soak up all of the yummy bacon flavor, leaving you with a combination of crispy bacon, soft and savory onion, and sweet, creamy bbq sauce.
Crazy DeLiCiOus and EASY to make!
Crispy Bacon Wrapped Onion Rings
If you're looking to impress your friends and family with something amazing to eat, look no further than these bacon wrapped onion rings! They make for a yummy snack, appetizer, or tasty addition to a cheeseburger. This creative recipe can be made in your oven, air fryer, or on your outdoor grill the next time you're hosting a bbq party.
Ingredients
- 1 (12 pack) regular sliced bacon
- 1 large yellow onion
- bbq sauce for serving
Instructions
- Cut the stem off of your onion and remove the outer layer. Next, continue cutting in the same direction to create RINGS. I cut mine about a ½ inch thick so that they were sturdy enough to hold the bacon. Try not to cry!
- Next, simply wrap the bacon around the onion rings trying not to overlap too much. Because the onion rings will all be in varying sizes, some of them will require one piece of bacon, while others may need 1½ or 2 slices to cover the entire onion. You can also double up on your onion rings if they're thin.
Oven Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400° F and place the bacon wrapped onion rings onto a foil lined baking sheet. If you have a baking rack, I recommend placing that onto your sheet pan for a crispier result. Cook for 15-25 minutes or until done to your liking. If you're not using a baking rack, flip them over half way through for best results.
Air Fryer Instructions
- Cook in a single layer at 390° F for about 10 minutes, flipping them over half way through. The only downfall of the air fryer is that you might have to make them in batches as you don't want them stacked.
Grill Instructions
- Set your grill to medium heat and cook for about 25 minutes, flipping them over a few times. You may need wooden skewers to hold them together if they’re flimsy.
The Finishing Touch
- Once finished, brush the crispy bacon with your favorite bbq sauce or serve it on the side for dipping.
- Enjoy aș a delicious snack, side dish, appetizer, or even addition to a cheeseburger or sandwich. Double the recipe if you're serving a crowd! Your family will probably fight over the last one.
Notes
- Want to spice them up? You can optionally sprinkle the bacon before cooking with garlic powder, black pepper, or cayenne.
- If serving as an appetizer or snack, a side of ranch or blue cheese dressing couldn't hurt.
- The time these take to cook will highly depend on your choice of bacon. Thin cut bacon is easier to wrap around the onions and cooks much faster.
