This Dump Cake is an Impressive & Delicious Addition to Your Thanksgiving and Holiday Dessert Menu
If you’re looking for easy dessert recipes for your family this fall, this caramel apple dump cake is the best darn apple dessert you’ll ever eat. Seriously. And, it’s made with just a few simple ingredients: canned apple pie filling, boxed yellow cake mix, caramel bits, and butter.
It’s quite impressive what you can make with boxed cake mixes, especially when it comes to dump cakes. These ingenious desserts require absolutely no prep or dirty dishes! You literally just dump everything into a baking dish and pop it in the oven. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, and you’ve got an instant hit.
I make this yummy treat every year for Thanksgiving and Christmas in place of apple pie because my entire family loves it. It’s also cheap, fun, hassle free, and full of incredible flavor and texture.
Easy Caramel Apple Dump Cake Recipe
- 2 (21 ounce) cans apple pie filling
- 1/2 (11 ounce) bag caramel bits (found in the baking section)
- 1 (15 ounce) box yellow cake mix
- 1 cup butter (2 sticks)
- vanilla ice cream for serving (optional)
Start off by greasing a large 9×13 baking dish with non-stick spray, and then spread both cans of apple pie filling onto the bottom of the dish.
Evenly sprinkle about half of the bag of caramel bits over top.
Dump and spread the dry cake mix over top.
Melt the butter and pour it all over the top, covering as much of the dry cake mix as you can.
Bake uncovered in a 350 degree oven for 30-40 minutes or until the buttery cake mix turns golden brown.
Let it cool for about 5 minutes and then serve warm with vanilla ice cream. This yummy dump cake is just as good leftover warmed up in the microwave! In fact, the cake topping gets crispier the longer it sits, so I think it’s even better the next day (if you’re lucky enough to have any left).

Notes
- You could also sprinkle a handful of chopped pecans in with the caramel bits for added crunch, and if you really like spice, try sprinkling extra cinnamon or nutmeg over the cake mix before adding the butter.
- Place any leftovers covered in the fridge for up to 5 days and reheat in the microwave. It's just as good leftover!

Behind The Scenes
Here’s a little peak of my “photo shoot”. I do some pretty goofy things to get decent enough photos. As long as you have enough natural lighting from a nearby window, you’d be amazed at what an iPhone can capture.
The faux wood vinyl paper was part of this 3 pack that I found here. The subway tile backdrop was also purchased on Amazon. My hubby cut it in half to fit that corner of the kitchen. I just tape it up, and voila! Our kitchen is transformed.
